How to Help

There are several ways to get involved with and support Songs of Conscience activities:

* If you are a musician or singer, and hear songs that inspire you on this site, please take them under wing! I am lucky enough to spend my working days as a songwriter first, meaning I write songs that I hope other people will sing. (In fact, the best of my songs are beyond my own vocal ability, as may be evident from some of the downloads here.) So, stronger voices, pitch in!

* By the same token, if you hear a song that bothers you, annoys you, offends you, raises issues for you, let's discuss it. It's exploration of these questions that is the real purpose of this site. There are countless places to download "political" songs of one persuasion or another; fewer where songwriters and involved listeners can really delve into the artistic and social/ethical questions that arise in doing this work. Goethe said that conversation was more precious than gold... So - ken we toe-walk?

* Spread the word about songs you find on this site, and about the site itself, via your own email list and word of mouth!

* Let us know about great songs of conscience you have happened across. As of now, what's on this site represents our own personal preferences (there's no pretence of democracy here!) but if you turn us on to something great and in the spirit of this site, we may at least post information about it.

* Write songs yourself, and let us know about them!

* Show up at an event listed here to show your support.

* Donations: Right now we are not in the position to accept charitable (or political) donations. The best way you can support our work right now is to support the folks we're working for. So we ask you to consider donating an extra $1-2 dollars for every song you download here to a candidate or cause of your choice, working for change in this country. (If the number of downloads gets really high, we may need to ask for more help!)

* Sign up on our mailing list. We will not share your contact information with any other organization, and will send you email specific to the stated scope and mission of this site and the Songs of Conscience initiative.

* RADIO PLAY! Though songs featured on this site may be partisan in nature, we'd be delighted for them to get exposure through radio play. If you hear something on this site which has been made available to radio, please help get the word out to your local stations and encourage them to play the songs.
